Drawing the sketch

The toolbar above the sketch holds the drawing tools. Each has a single-key shortcut.

Tool Key What it does
Select V Pick and drag rooms, lines and openings. Drag a room to move it.
Circulation L Draw circulation as lines. Click to add points; each line ends in an arrowhead.
Entrance E Place an entrance on the plot's outline. The circulation starts here.
Exit X Place a secondary way out on the outline.
Fixture F Place a fixed element: a stair, a lift, a shaft or a column. Choose which in the list beside the tool.
Window W Place a window on the outline, on a room's facade.

While drawing:

  • Enter finishes the line you are drawing.
  • Esc cancels the current drawing, or clears the selection.
  • Del or Backspace removes what is selected.

Rooms

Rooms start inside the plot. Drag them roughly into place - precision is the fit's job, not yours.

  • Overlapping is fine. The fitted plan never overlaps; it decides who gives way.
  • A room can be drawn in parts. Drag a leg out of a room to make an L-shape.
  • Rooms on the outline keep their facade. A room you put against the edge of the plot stays there in the fitted plan.

Circulation

Circulation lines say how people move through the plan. They are read into corridors and branches, or run through the halls and open plans that carry them.

  • Start from the entrance and draw towards the rooms it serves. A network of lines is fine.
  • Each line has its own width: select it to change it.
  • A short arrow from inside one room into another is a door, not a corridor. Select it to set the opening width.

Opening your own brief

Briefs exported by Parti's sketch lab (a .json file holding the plot, the brief and the sketch) can be opened from the folder button at the top.
